Friday Night Foodies, 80's Skaties and Chuffed Skates presents an International Women's Day skate-a-thon!

This special International Women’s Day (IWD) Event is part of the Women in Sport Festival. This evening is designed to celebrate women and community; and encourage women and girls to try new things or revisit old passions; be world beaters; and enjoy a cinematic classic.

The evening has something for everyone and 80's Skaties, Chuffed Skates, Newcastle Roller Derby League, and Lake Macquarie City Council are excited to join forces to bring this event to our community.

Community Skate Bank:  Chuffed skates and 80's Skaties have loan skates ready for any newcomers to try out the thrill of skating. All cash donations from the loan skates will go to The Sports Bra Project.

What's on

5-7.30pm - DJ N3bula on the MAP mima stage.

6.15-6.45pm - Roller Derby demo with Newcastle Roller Derby League (NRDL)

7-7.30pm - Roller dance workshop. Breakdown a few beginner friendly moves in quick introduction to roller dance. Chuffed Skates crew member Tara will guide you through the steps, and help you find your groove.

7.30pm - Attempt the World’s Longest Conga Line on Quad Skates: Join us as we attempt to break the record for the World’s Longest Conga Line on Quad Skates, with experienced Quad Skaters starting at the sculpture and winding our way around MAP mima and along the Promenade at Speer Point Park.

8pm - Xanadu film screening: It's time to return to the era where lycra and glitter went hand in hand, and where getting your skates on, was less about speed and more about style. Embrace your inner Olivia and roll on back to the decade that had us all in a spin! Come in your best 80's/Xanadu outfit - there's a prize for best dressed.
Bookings essential.

The Sports Bra Project

All proceeds from the film Screening of Xanadu and all cash donations from the loan skates at this event will go to The Sports Bra Project. The Sports Bra Project increases access to sports for women and girls by removing barriers to participation. We provide sports bras to athletes who don’t have access to such a basic piece of equipment. Find out more at The Sports Bra Project.
