The Great Romantics

Conducted by Christopher Bearman OAM, the Lake Macquarie Music Society present celebrated cellist Anthea Scott-Mitchell playing the Elgar Cello Concerto, one of the finest works in the cello repertoire.

The Lake Macquarie Philharmonic Orchestra will play Capriccio Espagnol by the Russian Romantic composer Rimsky-Korsakov. There are five sections: Alborada, Variations, Alborada, Scene and Gypsy Song, and Fandango Asturiano. Familiar from film and television, it is a showpiece for all sections of the orchestra.

The Opera Hunter Chorus joins the orchestra in Verdi’s Triumphal Scene from Aida, and the lovely Easter Hymn from Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni.

Conductor Christopher Bearman OAM has chosen the exciting Cappriccio Espagnol by Rimsky-Korsakov to complete the program.

Lake Macquarie Philharmonic Orchestra players are excited to showcase the big orchestral colours and tones of these great examples of Romanticism.

The Lake Macquarie Music Society is proudly home to the Lake Macquarie Philharmonic Orchestra.

This event is supported by Lake Macquarie City Council.
