Local photographers share images of local venues, iconic artists and musical highlights of their careers from the 70s to the present time.

Lake Macquarie and Newcastle’s suburban pubs and clubs have a rich history of live music hosting local and international acts. Join local photographers as they share the stories behind the images. Cover image courtesy of Juan Mahony.

There will be a bar open with wine, beer and snacks available to purchase using EFTPOS only.

Juan Mahony
Juan has been looking at live performances through a lens ever since he picked up a camera in 1977. Juan is a confessed hobbyist whose early shots are from 1977-87 predominantly at venues such as The Mawson, Swansea Workers Club, Orana Hotel, Belmont 16s, Belmont Sportsman's Club, Doyalson RSL, Newcastle Workers Club, Civic Theatre. As well as festivals such as Tanelorn 1981, and Narara 1983 & 84.

Shaquira Hobbs
Shaquira Hobbs is a freelance photographer located in the Lake Macquarie region but travelling far and wide to capture life's most precious moments. Shaquira is not just a photographer, creator, and writer, but also a dedicated mum who understands the profound value of preserving genuine emotions and authentic connections in every photograph. Formerly known as Forbidden Fruit Photography, Shaquira has now proudly stepped into the spotlight under her name.

Anthony Scully
Anthony Scully has been a reporter and producer for ABC Newcastle since 2002, and he is currently on secondment as a digital and video producer for ABC News. He began his career in journalism as an entertainment reporter at The Post (TE) in 1995, and can't imagine life without going to see live music.

Accessibility
MAP mima is located in Speers Point Park, off Park Street, on the edge of Lake Macquarie. MAP mima is accessible by ramp with accessible toilets. MAP can be reached easily from the lake foreshore cycleway, the water, or by public transport. There is plenty of parking for cars, and buses with accessible spaces available, onsite and in the surrounding parklands.

Map mima’s adjoining café will have a bar with a variety of snacks and drinks available.
