Lake House Artist Residency
The Lake House Artist Residency program is an initiative of Lake Macquarie City Council. It offers artists, curators and creatives the space and time to create and develop new work.
The first of its kind in Lake Macquarie, and only the second in the Hunter region, the Lake House aims to provide an environment for national and international creatives to develop their practice and contribute to Lake Macquarie’s creative ecology. It is expected that artists in residence will participate in local arts and cultural events in Lake Macquarie City during their stay.
The Lake House is a fully furnished residence accommodating up to six, with three bedrooms and a small studio space. It is located in beautiful Speers Point, a leafy suburb nestled beside the largest coastal saltwater lake in the southern hemisphere. Lake House is conveniently located two hours from Sydney and 30 minutes from the centre of Newcastle.
All residencies will be open to individual creatives as well as groups or collectives, depending on availability.
Artist Residency Programs
Council offers two Artist Residency programs:
- Self-funded
- Council-funded
Three Council-funded residencies of seven days duration are offered each financial year at the Lake House. Each residency is valued at $2000 and includes accommodation plus a modest per diem of $150 per day.
Expressions of Interest (EOIs) are now open for 2025 Council-funded residencies. Applications close on Sunday 22 December.
Self-funded residences are available at other times throughout the year and applications are accepted all year round. We encourage artists to apply for sector bursaries to fund their stay at the Lake House.
For both types of residencies EOIs are to be submitted online using the form below.
