Sanné Mestrom 'Lady of the lake' 2023

The newly installed reclining sculpture by nationally renowned sculptor Sanné Mestrom is Lake Macquarie City Councils newest Public Art commission.
Sanné Mestrom’s work has been shown at the National Gallery of Australia, Tarrawarra Biennial, and The Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney.
Her artistic practice and academic research are about public art that are designed to be climbable and encourage play in public spaces. Mestrom investigates how public art can make critically integrated, inclusive and interactive spaces.
Mestrom's sculptural works have been collected by key institutions across Australia and the world. Most recently, her sculpture 'The Offering' was acquired by the Art Gallery of NSW for the launch of the new Sydney Modern Museum. Lake Macquarie City Council commissioned 'Lady of Lake' located outside at MAP mima, in Speers Point Park in 2023.
Picnic & Play with Sanné Mestrom was held at the Multi-Arts Pavilion, mima in celebration of the new council public artwork. Mestrom facilitated a family-friendly, fun and vibrant play activity featuring loose sculptural parts.
