An Anthology of the Wind: Lottie Consalvo and Sarah Mosca
The site-specific video and sound installation offered an exploration of the invisible yet powerful force of air.
Air, often perceived as intangible, plays a crucial role in our daily lives. Despite its seemingly elusive nature, it holds immense significance, capable of both subtle and profound effects. From drying clothes to carrying boats across oceans, air's influence is undeniable. The artwork drew inspiration from the poignant story of the "wind phone" in Otsuchi, Japan—a telephone booth where individuals could communicate with departed loved ones through the wind's whispers.
Central to the installation was a black and white film featuring female figures assuming poses as if sculpted by the wind. This visual representation captured the essence of air's dynamic and transformative nature, inviting viewers to contemplate its intangible yet profound presence in our lives. Through the evocative imagery and accompanying soundscapes, "An Anthology of the Wind" offered a meditative journey into the unseen realms of the natural world.
Consalvo and Mosca’s collaboration transcended traditional artistic boundaries, creating a multisensory experience that resonated deeply with audiences. Visitors were enveloped in a narrative that celebrated the beauty and mystery of the wind.
“An Anthology of the Wind” served as a testament to the power of art to evoke contemplation, reflection, and connection with the elemental forces that shape our existence.
