Bruce took his first cut through the rough dirty exterior of a piece of timber to reveal the beautiful grain underneath and was captivated. It was at that moment that he decided to learn woodturning as his hobby. He has now also branched into resin and pyrography art. New to Woodturning, Bruce has started out with pens, keyrings and bits and pieces. He just can’t wait to see where it takes him on his journey. Manipulating the colour and patterns in the wood to complement the form, along with the texturing and turning to create the piece. Let’s face it “Wood is Good”. Bruce is inspired by many natural things and looks forward to seeing the finished piece. Using fresh cut logs in his work, the wood is a very direct and responsive medium, with properties that are unique not about the "woodiness" but the working qualities that it has.
Bruce’s resin and pyrography art is another medium that he loves. Now venturing out into another field that is taking him beyond his limitations, burning designs into the timber to see his designs and pouring resin over the timber into designs and forming pictures.
