Gillian has always dabbled with fibres and started with off loom weaving and basketry. She then discovered spinning and spent many years spinning different fibres and used them for knitting and weaving into garments. Initially she used naturally coloured fibres then started experimenting with natural dyes progressed to chemical dyes and back to eco dyeing. She started weaving again but this time on a small loom and found the interlacement of fibres and the use of colour gave interesting and surprising results. The many patterns available to the handweaver also presented different textures and feel of cloth. She has exhibited at the Wollombi Fire Shed Gallery and previous Open Studios and enjoys talking and sharing her experiences in spinning, weaving, dyeing experimentations with others. She is making more smaller items eg mug mats, braids, tea towels, and placemats as these allow her more time to experiment with colour and patterns.
