Leslie Duffin
Leslie Duffin is primarily a painter, working in oils. She gained an Advanced Diploma in Fine Art from Newcastle Art Scholl TAFE in 2012.
for nearly 10 years Lslie was the owner/director of Finite Gallery at Caves Beach.
I began creating collages from colour sample cards during my residency at Nobbys/Whibayganba with Lighthouse Arts during September 2023. My aim was to create colour surveys to use as references for oil paintings at a later date. So far, the paintings have not materialised and the collages themselves have become a secondary art practice. Initially the subjects were Newcastle harbour and the shipping traffic. Since then the subjects have become more diverse as I experiment and test my skills.
Each collage is created from paint sample chips using scissors and glue, with no pre-drawing of the shapes. Using the scissors, I cut a colour contour from observing the image I am rendering. Shapes are then layered and combined to produce the final artwork.
