Louise Dash
Louise Dash is a High School Visual Art teacher from Dora Creek, who has been practicing drawing properly from the age of ten and was taught by a woman who lived across the road from school.
Says Louise: “Many of the lessons and sayings that she taught me I still use to motivate and extend my creative process now. Some of which I use in my role as a High School Visual Arts Teacher. Having only become a Visual Arts teacher within the last few years, before training to be a teacher, I was a Graphic Designer, predominantly working freelance for small local companies in Lake Macquarie. Through this experience, I learnt that my creativity and motivation to be creative was driven by my need to be apart of community. As a Freelance Designer, with no one to bounce ideas off or to push me to try something new, I found myself drained of creative energy. Community is so crucial to the expression of creativity. It serves as inspiration for self expression, both artistically and socially. I believe that when we make art, we express the context of our lives. And, over the past few years, admiring the flowers was about all I could do.
My work consists of all the places and subjects I want to see and be surrounded by on a daily basis, quite often being animals and nature. I consider my artworks as a form of admiration and gratitude for moments in my life of joy, calm or even loneliness. Mostly my work consists of pencil drawings, with the occasional watercolour or acrylic painting."
