Prue Chappel
Since Prue was just a little girl she has been involved in working with fabric and threads which complimented her wild, vivid and creative imagination.
She loves experimenting with colours as the possibilities are endless that can be put together - especially when it makes unexpected unique combinations. Prue idolised her mother’s talent who was always collecting and creating wonders and so it was, Prue was also blessed with her mother’s talented creativity genes.
Prue’s fondest memories are of her suddenly stopping by the side of the road to collect paper daisies, dried grasses, nuts, cones and all sorts of seeds to create ‘pictures’ with her Mum. Growing up in a small town near Orange there were always plenty of beautiful native plants as well as cold climate European trees. In nearby Molong there was a craft centre and it was there Prue had her first special experience creating her own little wonder which happened to be felting wool from a raw fleece.
Prue began with simple fancy work and as her imagination went wild, it motivated her to continue learning as much as she could. Once Prue mastered simple fancy work, she had the wonderful opportunity to join the Lake Macquarie Embroiderers Guild as a proud member, where she was able to continue learning and progress her skills to more complicated embroidery stitches.
On completing her teaching career as a Primary School teacher, she then had the time to join Wangi Quilters group which opened the doors to even more wonderful learning opportunities! While Prue has begun her micro business making unique high end children’s clothes during the day, at night she is not without a needle and thread in hand embroidering, cross stitching, knitting, crocheting or doing some tapestry.
Prue’s wonderful mother Margaret was and always will be her inspiration and motivation to continue collecting and creating the most beautiful wonders.
