“When presented with the opportunity to create a piece for the Pavilion, I knew I had to create a sound bed to match the aesthetic of the building and my mind went off world immediately. 

Sci-fi has always been a driving force behind my music and my preferred genre of film and books for as long as I can remember. Although it can be dismissed as fanciful and detached from reality, it can also be a stark reminder of how things can go as well as offer hope for a new future that we can strive for. 

For the sounds themselves, I used my eurorack modular system which provided textural and raw source sounds and then applied complex automation, editing and effects in the computer to turn them into an ambient soundscape. Using the 6 speakers around the building, I created quite long samples which bounce off and interact with each other. By strategically placing the same sounds at different points in the recordings, the sounds appear to bounce around the space creating a dystopian yet cohesive atmosphere as the samples are triggered by the audience interacting with the piece.”
