PRESS PLAY: Skux Az installation

Skux Az art duo portrait

Skux Az Designs, is Indeah Clark and Tamahae Puha, a low-brow, emerging, multidisciplinary artist duo whose artworks are purposefully unfiltered and raw.

The artwork they have created for Press Play is an interpretation of a golden wedge tailed eagle in the artists' unique illustrative style. The golden wedge tail is the largest bird of prey known to Australia and has strong cultural significance to the Awabakal people. Skux Az wanted to celebrate the native wildlife of this area and pay homage and respects to Birabahn and Awabakal mob.

Since the global pandemic, the duo have had to adapt their creative process. Their usual interactive art experiences are, for now, out of the question, so they’ve created a participatory stage for viewers to immerse themselves in, and be a part of the art, without any close contact.

"Cosmically-coloured cacti and cotton candy clouds create an alien world for the viewer which we feel is how life after COVID can seem. The cacti are placed 1.5 metres apart from one another, reinforcing the importance of social distancing. Naturally covered in spines these cacti play off the ‘look but don’t touch’ idea when in public to minimise the spread of the virus and harm to the community." – Skux Az

Skux Az acknowledge the Awabakal people as the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and create and pay our respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
