For more than thirty years August Muth has been an internationally exhibiting artist and pioneer in the exploration of light using holography and light installations.

A hologram shapes light through its microscopic structure. For this hologram August Muth has recorded a simple shape with a single beam of laser light that is then multiplied by illuminating the hologram with multiple light sources.

Light, as we perceive it, gives us only a brief glimpse of the momentary realities in which we exist.

"Through my work, I strive to record with precision the perceptible lightspace-time phenomena. As these three elements intertwine, a three-dimensional topography of pure light is formed, revealing a window into the elusive realms of the light-space-time paradox. Luminous veils of light invite the viewer into a multi-dimensional journey. The physicality of earthly materials becomes non-essential as one becomes enthralled by the tactile quality of this light." About the artist

For more than thirty years, August Muth has been an internationally exhibiting artist and pioneer in the exploration of light utilizing holography and light installations. He began his studies of art and physics at the University of New Mexico in 1974. From 1975 to 1978, he attended the University of Houston and the University of Texas at Austin to continue his studies.

After an inspiring visit to New York City in 1978, he left Texas and moved to New York. In 1980, Muth began working with holographic processes at New York’s Museum Of Holography. In 1985, he moved to the Telluride, Colorado area to build his own holography studio. After seven years in Colorado, Muth’s studio was moved to Santa Fe and expanded to accommodate more ambitious projects in a more favorable artist environment. August Muth received a Holographic Art Grant from the Hologram Foundation in 2018.
